Choosing Your First Generative AI Use Cases
To get started with generative AI, first focus on areas that can improve human experiences with information.
UBTech's Walker S2 is designed for use across frontline industrial applications.
Shenzhen-based robotics company UBTech has begun production and delivery of its humanoid robot, Walker S2, with several hundred units of the model expected to be deployed across frontline industrial applications.
The company said the news marks the world's first mass delivery of humanoid robots, setting a "replicable benchmark for the deployment of humanoid robots."
UBTech has an ultimate target of 500 units delivered across China by year-end.
The Walker model is pitched by UBTech as shifting the needle from product delivery to "scenario-based" use cases, which the company said paves the way for large-scale humanoid adoption.
"Walker S2 is the world's first industrial humanoid robot integrated with Co-Agent, UBTech's proprietary intelligent agent system," UBTech said in a press release. "This system empowers the robot with closed-loop operational capabilities, including intention understanding, task planning, tool usage, and autonomous anomaly detection and handling."
Earlier this year, the company showcased Walker's ability to autonomously change its batteries, enabling almost entirely human-free operation.
UBTech said it has received more than 800 million yuan ($113 million) worth of orders for its Walker model so far this year, spanning pilot installations through multisite industrial rollouts.
Major recent contracts include a 250 million yuan ($35 million) deal signed in September and a 159 million yuan ($22 million) agreement to deploy Walker S2 robots across a data collection center in Zigong.
The shipments signal a significant industrial milestone for Shenzhen's fast-maturing robotics sector and underscore rising demand for humanoid robots capable of handling physically intensive, repetitive tasks traditionally performed by on-site workers.
The news also fits with UBTech's wider strategy to ramp up its production, with a target of 5,000 units per year by 2026, and 10,000 units by 2027.
Initial deployments will reportedly be in automotive manufacturing, smart factories, logistics hubs and data-collection facilities.
The company is already working with major industrial and automotive players including BYD, Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, Geely Auto, FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao, Audi FAW, BAIC New Energy, Foxconn, and SF Express.
