Choosing Your First Generative AI Use Cases
To get started with generative AI, first focus on areas that can improve human experiences with information.
CoreWeave is partnering with Poolside to deliver AI cloud services via 40,000-plus Nvidia GPUs and anchor a 2-gigawatt AI campus in West Texas.
The frenzy of deals to deliver infrastructure for AI shows no sign of abating, with New Jersey's CoreWeave and foundation model company Poolside the latest to confirm a partnership.
CoreWeave said it will deliver AI cloud services to support Poolside's efforts to deploy agents across the enterprise. As part of this, it will provide a frontier-scale cluster of Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems, which include more than 40,000 Nvidia graphics processing units. These will come online in December to power Poolside's training.
CoreWeave is also set to provide Poolside with cloud services for its Project Horizon, a huge AI campus it is set to launch in West Texas.
In a blog post on the Poolside website, co-founders Jason Warner and Eiso Kant explained that the facility will be "built from the ground up to power the next generation of frontier-scale training."
They added: "This project marks the next logical step for Poolside -- owning not just the intelligence layer, but the energy and compute foundation that supports it."
The center will be built on a 560-acre patch of a family-owned ranch that covers 500,000 acres, and its scale promises to be vast, with initial suggestions that it could become one of the biggest in the U.S.
CoreWeave will be anchor tenant and operational partner for the first 250-megawatt phase of the campus, under a 15-year lease, and 500 megawatts have been reserved for expansion. Ultimate capacity could be two gigawatts.
Financials were not disclosed, but the Wall Street Journal quoted Kant as saying the industry standard for the cost of a two-gigawatt data center is around $16 billion. Poolside, however, expects the sum to be lower due to its use of modular building techniques.
Poolside added that the location will help to make the mammoth undertaking feasible. By being based at the center of the energy-rich Permian Basins, the center will have direct access to abundant, low-cost natural gas.
The tie-up comes just weeks after CoreWeave secured a $14.2 billion deal with Meta Platforms to supply services until 2031, while its desire to expand is been reflected in acquisitions including London's Monolith AI at the start of October.
"Poolside's approach to foundation models represents exactly the kind of breakthrough work the CoreWeave platform was designed to accelerate," Michael Intrator, co-founder and CEO of CoreWeave, said in a release. "Together, we're building the performance layer that will define how AI research becomes real-world capability."
Kant added: "This partnership … ensures immediate access to next-generation silicon, enabling us to train multi-trillion parameter models with large scale reinforcement learning. With this secured, we can now demonstrate our compounding research, engineering and data advantages."
