在横向工具中,会议辅助类应用Fyxer(第7位)、Happyscribe(第36位)等表现亮眼,创意设计平台Freepik(第4位)和编程工具Replit(第3位)同样广受欢迎。垂直工具则主要应用于客服、销售与招聘领域,代表企业包括Lorikeet(第8位)、Instantly(第13位)等。

Choosing Your First Generative AI Use Cases
To get started with generative AI, first focus on areas that can improve human experiences with information.
A new a16z report shows OpenAI tops AI spending by startups. Consumer AI tools are increasingly adopted by enterprises, with 70% not requiring enterprise licenses.
A new survey by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) shows where start-ups are spending on AI companies and products.
The report, compiled by a16z in association with fintech firm Mercury, contains some surprising results, such as the heavy use of consumer tools in the enterprise -- as well as some more predictable ones.
Transaction data through Mercury's platform was analyzed to put together a Top 50 of AI-native Application Layer companies, following on from a16z's established Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps report.
The intent is to illustrate where "AI is actually being applied in products and workflows" -- and with that in mind it was perhaps not a shock to see OpenAI, developer of ChatGPT, ranked No. 1, according to a16z. Beyond that, other large language model assistants also fared well, with Anthropic finishing second and Perplexity 12th.
As a16z explained, these applications are all considered horizontal ("focused on boosting overall productivity") as opposed to vertical ("targeting specific roles"). The horizontal category included AI companies that provide meeting support, such as Fyxer (No. 7), Happyscribe (No. 36) and Plaud (No. 38).
Creative assistants are also considered horizontal, with all-in-one suite Freepik leading the way among these (No. 4). There was general success for vibe coding tools, too, with Replit (No. 3) ranking highest.
To date, vertical AI tools are generally being used to augment human workers -- by tackling repetitive tasks rather than replacing them. The most popular categories of vertical software include customer services, sales and recruiting, with Lorikeet (No. 8), Instantly (No. 13) and Micro1 (No. 9) ranking as key companies.
The report zeroed in on one notable enterprise trend: how AI products often start out as consumer tools and gradually work their way into enterprise. As a16z pointed out, around 70% of the companies on the list can be adopted by individuals and brought into teams, because they don't need an enterprise license to use.
This phenomenon was confirmed by the report's authors, who stated: "Thanks to AI, consumer products are more powerful than ever before while being able to serve enterprise use cases at the same time. Given the urgency around AI adoption to boost employee efficiency, these tools are also getting 'pulled' into enterprise faster than ever before."
This trend is set to continue, the authors stated, with more enterprise AI success stories in the years ahead likely to have started as consumer-first products.
